NHL has been a trusted supplier to Bailey for several years, manufacturing hydraulic cylinders finished in Bailey’s signature green using a high-performance 2-pack polyurethane high solid paint system.
Brief
Bailey approached NHL seeking a way to further extend the lifespan of their hydraulic cylinders.
Although the existing painted finish met all required specifications, the cylinders were mounted in exposed areas of the trailers, often subject to harsh environmental conditions. Over time, this exposure led to surface rusting, prompting a review of more durable corrosion protection methods.
Solution
NHL proposed an enhanced protection solution by introducing zinc plating to the cylinder body and a chrome over stainless steel rod for added durability.
This approach was selected for its proven corrosion resistance and performance in extreme environments. To validate the effectiveness, NHL commissioned an independent salt spray test to compare the performance of the zinc-coated cylinder against the standard painted version.
Outcome
The results were clear, Zinc-coated cylinders withstood corrosion.
This marked improvement significantly increases the operational life of the cylinders and reduces maintenance or replacement frequency which is an important factor for Bailey’s customers who rely on long-term durability in the field.
